Testosterone replacement therapy?

I’m 30 years old, and I was found to have low testosterone levels, so my doctor wants to put on TRT for six months, what are the risks and benefits?

Is the so called low level affecting you? Do you have low libido, breasts etc? If not the level may not be low for you. Even if it was low you should have more than one test to ensure it is always that low.

If your doctor is using a gel, patch or andriol tablets the risks are quite low provided he monitors your liver function and your cholesterol levels. You will have a very slight increase in your cardiovascular disease risk and a very slight risk of liver damage but with low dose steroids this risk is small – low dose steroids have never been demonstrated to cause cancer! – Most of the studies showing damage have been at mega doses taken by idiots not receiving ethical medical treatment.

If you are constantly tired, a bit depressed, low libido and struggle to retain musculature the tretament will offer benefits.

However once you go on testosterone therapy it is likely you will need it forever as it will slowly shut down what little natural testosterone you are currently making.

You may want to consider an alternative to start with such as estrogen blockers – these can increase your own natural production of testosterone slightly.

Discuss your options fully with your doctor and ensure your tests results are repeatable.
