effects of testosterone replacement therapy
Hormone Replacement Therapy for men?

My docter has prescribed testosterone cypionate due to two testicular injuries over a decade ago. 2 years ago, when I tested my hormones, I was at the low end for a 70 year (and I was 46 at the time.) Since then we have worked to fine tune the dose, but one side effect is acne, which I hate. Is there a different type of testosterone that would not produce acne as a side effect. I also take anastrazole to keep the estradiol levels within normal limits.

There is testosterone gel, the leading name brand is called ‘AndroGel’. It’s expensive, but my doctor can occasionally find vouchers for me. As is the same for you, I don’t make enough testosterone myself. It was not due to an injury, but instead depression, so you may want to trust your doctor on this one.

If you have insurance, you may want to ask your doctor about a testosterone gel. After you take a shower, you rub this gel on your shoulders and / or stomach, and after several weeks or a few months, your testosterone will go up. Also your doctor can and should give you a periodic injection of testosterone in your buttcheek.

Ask your doctor, as I believe this may be a better alternative for you. Any hormone, especially topical, can cause a temporary acne outbreak. Even if you take a topical product to cure acne, the directions state that you will experience a short breakout of zits. Tell your doctor about this and s/he may be able to help. I would recommend a gentle facial soap such as Neutrogena glycerin soap to start off with.
