Can Oral Micronized Progesterone [Prometrium] Make You Fat?

I have been prescribed prometrium – 100mg per day for menopausal hot flashes and insomnia. I’ve gained 20lbs over 6 months of using it. I work out everyday and my daily caloric intake is not high. My diet is well balanced and my work out is vigorous ie running 2 miles and weight training. The only thing that seems to be the cause is this hormone. Does anyone out there have any stories to share with me about their own bio identical hormone replacement therapy?

I actually went to an Endocrinologist because I gained 6kg and all she said that you have to expect weight gain when you’re menopausal. Gee thanks a lot. I really haven’t spoken to anyone going through this that doesn’t have a hard time trying to keep their weight down. I don’t know whether it’s the drugs or simply that your metabolism slows down, either way it’s depressing. I’ve tried all different types of HRT from the “natural” to the prescriptive. Just keep exercising and watch what you eat and don’t buy fitting clothes…
